Bringing Community Basketball Closer to Home

Southern Peninsula Basketball Association is excited to announce the expansion of our Saturday community competition to include games at Sorrento Community Centre, helping bring basketball closer to home for more local families.

This expansion is a key step in our ongoing commitment to improving access, participation and overall experience across the Peninsula. By utilising Sorrento Community Centre as an additional venue, we are able to better distribute games, reduce congestion late games at existing venues and deliver more balanced game times across the competition.

Alongside the new venue, we are also adjusting our fixture policy to localise games where possible. This means teams will increasingly play closer to home, reducing travel demands for players, families and volunteers. Fewer long drives, more predictable schedules and improved game times all contribute to making basketball easier to participate in and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

These changes align directly with SPBA’s broader strategy to remove barriers to participation and ensure basketball remains accessible, welcoming and community focused.

As we prepare for the upcoming season, this expansion presents an exciting opportunity for new players and families in Rye, Sorrento and surrounding areas to join our basketball community. Whether you are new to the sport, returning after a break or looking for a local competition for your family, our community competition offers a positive and inclusive environment for players of all experience levels.

New season registrations will be opening soon, and we encourage anyone interested to reach out early for more information.
