The Sharks are building for 2027. We are recruiting Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers across three Big V teams.

Southern Peninsula Basketball Association is calling for applications for our 2027 Big V program. Whether you are an experienced representative coach or ready to take the next step, we want to hear from you.
These are key roles in the Sharks representative pathway, working closely with our Head of Coaching & Pathways to build strong, connected programs across our junior and senior streams.

Position DescriptionSenior Head Coach
The Senior Head Coach develops and sustains a strong core group of athletes and coaching staff for their program, running an extensive pre-season from November and coaching the team across the Big V fixtured season from March to August. The role delivers the Sharks Style of Play in consultation with the Head of Coaching & Pathways, provides regular player and team feedback including video review, prepares the team for each fixture, and plays a key part in giving our junior high-performance athletes opportunities within the Senior Program. Representative Coaching Accreditation is essential, along with a strong coaching philosophy, leadership, and a demonstrated ability to develop players and teams.
Position DescriptionYouth League Head Coach
The Youth League Head Coach works alongside the respective Senior Team Head Coach to build a strong core group competing in the Big V Competition, making sure both teams run the same system and train together. The role covers an extensive pre-season, coaching across the fixtured season, implementing the Sharks Style of Play, opposition preparation, and giving every player individual review and feedback across the year. It is a genuine pathway position, connecting our Junior Representative athletes through to the Senior Program. Competition Coaching Accreditation and a current Victorian Driver's Licence are essential.
Position DescriptionAssistant Coach
The Assistant Coach supports the Team Head Coach in preparing, developing and delivering the team's program across the season, helping plan and run training, leading drills, skill stations and small-group work, and supporting individual player development with review and feedback. On game day you assist with warm-ups, in-game input, statistics and opposition analysis, and you provide continuity by deputising for the Head Coach at training or fixtures when required. It is a genuine development role: coaching accreditation appropriate to the level, or a clear commitment to working towards it, is what is asked, along with reliability and a willingness to work under the Head Coach's direction. A current Victorian Driver's Licence is required.
Position DescriptionTeam Manager
The Team Manager is the operational and administrative anchor of the team, handling communication, logistics, match-day administration and compliance so the coaching staff can focus on coaching and player development. You are the central point of contact between the team, its families and SPBA: distributing fixtures and training times, managing registrations, availability and team sheets, coordinating uniforms and away travel, and escalating any operational or safeguarding matters to the right person. Strong organisation, clear communication and reliability across a season matter most here. Familiarity with basketball is desirable, not essential.

Southern Peninsula Basketball Association is a child safe organisation with zero tolerance for child abuse and neglect. These are child-related positions, delivered in line with Basketball Victoria's Child Safeguarding Policy, the Child Safe Practices and Basketball Australia's National Integrity Framework. SPBA's representative teams include athletes under 18 across both the junior and senior programs, so child safety is a core responsibility of these roles rather than an incidental one.
The person appointed must:
- Hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check at all times and complete SPBA's child safety induction. The appointment cannot commence or continue without a valid Check.
- Work within the scope of the role and maintain appropriate professional boundaries, avoiding favouritism, gifts, private social contact, and one-to-one unobserved contact with any athlete under 18.
- Communicate through parents or guardians and SPBA's approved channels, copying in SPBA and a parent or guardian, never private phone, social media or messaging, and never ask a child to keep communication secret.
- Ensure children are actively supervised, and that any physical contact, change-room, transport and overnight arrangements meet the Child Safe Practices.
- Use positive, respectful language and behaviour management. Never use physical punishment, or supply alcohol, tobacco, vapes, other drugs or unauthorised medication to a child.
- Photograph or film children only where directly related to their participation, appropriately, and with the required approvals.
- Act immediately on any concern, disclosure or allegation in line with the Child Safeguarding policy.
