Summer2026/27 Season
Everything you need to get a team on the court this summer. New to the association? Start with the three steps below and we will take care of the rest.
How It Works
Three steps from first thought to first game. Every registration goes through PlayHQ.
Find your team
Juniors play through one of our nine local clubs, so start by getting in touch with the club nearest you. Senior players can join a club team or create their own independent team.
Everyone registers on PlayHQ
Every player, coach and team manager registers online with their own email address. A team needs at least five registered players before it can be fixtured.
Turn up and play
Fixtures are released through PlayHQ. Bring matching singlets, shorts without pockets, and one scorer aged 14 or older for each game.
Never done this before? Email competitions@sthpen.com.au or find your closest club on our clubs page. We will point you in the right direction.
Key Dates
Team registrations close before the season starts. Do not leave it until the last week.

Good To Know
The details that catch new teams out. Worth two minutes before Round 1.
Grading, ladders and results
For the first five rounds of grading, ladders and results are hidden to protect the integrity of the grading process.
After Round 5 all ladders reset to zero, and points from that round onward count towards the season. SPBA reserves the right to move teams after the grading period to create the fairest competition possible.
Finals and eligibility
Players. Players must meet the age requirements as at 31 December of the competition year. Players under 16 need parental consent to play in senior competitions. Players may only play in one team per division and must follow the fill-in player rules.
Finals. Players must play at least 50% of the season's games to be eligible for finals.
Teams. Teams need a minimum of five registered players and a nominated team manager. Junior teams also need a coach. All team members must comply with SPBA regulations.
Structure. Semi finals are 1v4 and 2v3. The winners meet in the grand final.
Uniforms
All players must wear matching singlets and the same colour shorts by Round 5. Incorrect uniforms carry a three point penalty per player.
Reversible numbered singlets are encouraged to help with colour clashes. Shorts with pockets are not permitted for safety reasons.
Game day and scoring
Each team must provide one competent scorer aged 14 or older for every game.
All players must be registered and insured before taking the court. Fill-in players must be added courtside with the correct details, in line with the by-laws.
Coaches and team managers
All coaches and team managers must be registered to their team in PlayHQ.
If the team includes players under 18, coaches and team managers must also hold a valid Working with Children Check and a completed Statutory Declaration.
Teams that have not met this requirement by Round 3 may receive a 0-20 forfeit per game and be removed from the fixture until it is rectified.
Conduct and the sin bin
Sin bin rule. A player who receives a Behavioural Technical Foul sits out for five minutes of game clock time. This applies across all competitions.
Repeat offences. Repeated technical fouls lead to escalating suspensions, and five technical fouls results in an automatic season suspension. The full policy is in the by-laws.
AGM attendance
Every team must have at least one representative attend the Annual General Meeting. Failure to attend results in a fine.
Independent teams that notify SPBA at least 48 hours in advance are treated as a notified forfeit. Those that do not will face unnotified forfeit fines. Clubs must ensure representatives from at least 50% of their teams attend, otherwise non-attending teams incur fines.
Privacy
By registering, you authorise the use of your name, image, likeness and reputation for advertising and promotion. Where the participant is under 18, this consent is given by the parent or guardian completing the registration.
Full details are available in our association policies.
The full rulebook. Everything above sits inside the SPBA Competition By-laws, which cover fixturing, transfers, modified junior rules, the mercy rule, representative player points and exemptions. Read the by-laws
Our Domestic Clubs
Junior players register through a club. Get in touch with the one closest to you.
Southern Peninsula Basketball Association is a child safe organisation with zero tolerance for child abuse and neglect. Our community competition is delivered in line with Basketball Victoria's Child Safeguarding Policy and Basketball Australia's National Integrity Framework.
All coaches and team managers working with junior teams hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check and a completed Statutory Declaration. If you have a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child at any SPBA venue, speak to a staff member on duty or visit our child safety page.
Still Have Questions?
If you are in a club team, your club is your first point of contact. If you are in an independent team, speak to your team manager.
