Vaccination Requirement Update

Dear Members,

Recently, we have been working with all venues we operate out of and we can now confirm that all venues are now allowing us to operate under the requirements of the Victorian Government Open Premises Directions for Community Sport.

As of Friday 26th of November, we will move our SPBA run operations to align with the Open Premises Directions regarding Community Sport. Under these directions, Community Sport is exempt from the vaccination mandate where a facility is used solely for the purpose of that sport.

As a result of this change, vaccinations will no longer be a requirement for patrons in our venues. This includes players, team staff, parents and spectators. This is in place for:

  • SPBA Domestic Program

  • SPBA Programs

  • SPBA run trainings

  • Trainings run at SPBA venues

*note teams that train at non SPBA venues such as domestic teams will still be required to abide by their venue’s requirements around vaccines. E.g. training at a school.

Staff of the Association will still be required to be vaccinated under the Open Premises Directions which will ensure a safer environment as staff will commonly crossover groups.

In reaching this decision, working with our clubs, we carefully considered:

  • Our venues are a controlled environment where we can ensure patrons check in with the QR code and we know who is in our venues

  • The increasing vaccination rates in Victoria nearing 95%

  • Now the vaccination rates are higher, ensuring we are inclusive in providing the health outcomes community sport drives

As we continue into this next step we are continuing to keep everyone safe with a number of COVID-Safe procedures including, regular cleaning, staff wearing masks, QR code check ins and more.

Junior Sharks – VJBL

The only exception to this rule will be for the VJBL Competition for our Junior Sharks which is run by Basketball Victoria.

We will be soon emailing all Junior Sharks families, however, the requirements can be found here: https://www.basketballvictoria.com.au/news/basketball-victoria-leagues-competitions-and-events-vaccination-requirements

We appreciate these are new and ever-changing times and we appreciate everyone’s patience and commitment to the club over such a challenging period.
